XTROPTIONS GOLD Reputation Information

As someone else commented- it’s a DW bike with full XTR, what’s not to like? RC did a good job of showcasing the Mach 5.7’s traits. You can call it an ad or bias because it is information to influence someone’s buying decisions. If you were in the market for this bike, wouldn’t you want to know everything you can about it?

Why do you not mind that a bike review reads like an ad? Do you like to sit at home and watch commercials on the teevee too? I mean i don’t pay to frequent this site so i guess i don’t really have any room to complain, but why don’t you prefer bias free reporting? I really wish that everyone who is under the impression that Pinkpike is supposed to cater to their particular intrests and opions would shut the f up. That people can’t appreciate a wide range of subject matter and editorial styles. I like the mix, I ride DH, XC, I still dirt jump once in a blue moon- Id like to have it all on my plate and I like looking at bike parts..and bikes.

  • Best of luck with the recovery, alicia.
  • We did get out for some big laps, but most of our time requires more compact and concise test loops that allow for those back-to-back impressions that are so important.
  • And that’s also why we’ve got RSD’s $3,999 USD Wildcat in this round, so we can talk about what spending twice as much money does – and doesn’t – do for you on the trail.
  • Rolling out on the Mach 5.7 feels like a different animal than its predecessor.
  • I got a Trek Session and I like it fine, but as a heavier guy I find myself reaching for my XC bike more often.
  • And all the Rock Shox trail forks are the same, 32mm stanchions – 15mm axle.

Granted, I live where there’s endless backcountry trails and not that much enduro, but I had so much fun on the short travel bike this year. It’s sketchy AF in the rough stuff but it makes the blues and easier blacks way more fun than pedaling the long travel around. Pivot’s best selling trail bike was decided the moment the Arizona bike brand released the five-inch-travel Mach 5. By luck or design, it was a near-perfect blend of honest handling and cross-country efficiency.

PSS the boutique brands pricing isn’t as out of line with mid-high range large brands anymore. I very much dislike wearing any and all knee pads whenever there’s any pedaling involved. And those rocks weren’t as sketchy as what I see most days at home, but I just make them look really sketchy tbh haha. You’re 100% allowed to wear them whenever you want, though.

The DW-link is a virtual pivot design just like the VPP, Haro Virtual Link, EVERY horst-linked 4-bar, Ellsworth’s ICT and Rocky Mountain’s Smoothlink/ETS . The placement of the upper and lower links and where they pivot at determine the axle path and the actual point in space that the rear axle pivots around as the suspension compresses. On DW-link’s the axle follows essentially the bottom half of a J letter shaped curve, where on say the Santa Cruz owned VPP patent the axle is following an S shaped path. I’ve been riding an M5.7 for the past year and I think it rocks. I built mine with a traditional 3×9 drivetrain, which I prefer since you don’t have to compromize on either end. I totaly disagree on the super strong derailleur hanger.

Pivot’s ISCG-05 adapter, and is intended for single-ring cranksets. For riders who want to build up a Mach 5.7 at home, Pivot sells the frame only for $2199 in five sizes, from extra small to extra large, as well as specific women’s sizes. Colors are charcoal anodized and white, and either pink or baby blue as female options.

I thought that’s even light for a hardtail. My hardtail is cheaper than that but it may not be below 25lbs . That said, the fork was a 150mm travel fork which I lowered to 120mm but to my absolute horror didn’t get any lighter.

Pivot Mach 5.7 Review

This field test makes more sense if you ignore ‘down country’ and see it as a lollapalooza of short travel bikes. Speaking of the Following, since Evil was not present in PB’s tests for a long time, you could omit it now also. If I remember correctly, the first generation of Following was marketed as a “Mini Downhill” bike. It is clearly a short-travel trail bike. I got a Trek Session and I like it fine, but as a heavier guy I find myself reaching for my XC bike more often. I do feel like it is hard to pedal Session a bit, and the XC bike is more fun on the climbing trails.

I’d say I’d you are not spending 9k on your bike, but do ride a lot, then you are selling yourself short. Stop compromising on your favorite hobby and compromise in other areas. 9k bikes are totally worth it, and not just for rich people.

Also, this bike isn’t widely available in Canada so this is probably the best way to get the word out and to let the rest of the world know of its existence. I have ridden a Mach 5 and Mach xtroptions 5.7 and will be getting a carbon Mach 5.7 when it gets here. I also have a firebird and a titus racer100 from 2001 . Not to mention most of us middle-agers can actually afford this bike…

Best of luck with the recovery, alicia. My next bike will be either US or Canadian made. Devinci has a couple of alloy bike offerings. It will not be an Atlas or Ibis though as those are silly money. And speaking of doing things, Tom Richards, Max Barron, and Stefan Licko ran the cameras and yelled, “One more time!” about a thousand times; we wouldn’t have any of these videos or photos without their hard work.

Regardless of her history, you appreciate who she is now, what she has learned in life, and that those experiences brought her to you. I’ve never met RC, but he sure brings a lot to the table as far as experience in our industry, and that’s something we will all learn to appreciate. Pinkbike became huge because it was decent. Keep Mr. Cunningham writing on here and see what happens. There is nothing wrong with people trying to keep Pinkbike from becoming the next MBA.

It’s certainly not the most fun to descend, but it wasn’t that much slower or uncomfortable to ride down big descents than my modern trail bike. Spur, Epic Evo, Blur, Lux Trail, etc, have already been reviewed. I bet they will mention a few of these in their reviews of the new bikes.

We were supposed to have the SST included in this test but had some delays. I’ve got one now and have been riding it – review really soon. Some really nice riding out here, after living in the Lower Mainland for 6 years, much enjoy riding in the East again. Don’t care about the bikes in the test , stoked to see WHERE these were tested. Some off bike choices, but it’ll be more interesting that way, not a bunch of big names, two domestic carbon frames (boom!), and Evil (wtf?!), and RSD doing what they do .

Shimano Pulley Set MTB

I started viewing Pinkbike in its’ infancy and loved it too. I am also concerned with its’ direction. I, like many others, don’t want it to become what MBA has become. Pinkbike has so many good things going for it, and definitely has the audience. I hope comments like these help keep it honest.

Kashima coating was conspicuously missing from the Fox fork, and when asked, Pivot officials said that the Mach 5.7 seemed to perform just fine without the slippery coating – especially so after a brief break-in period. The same function that makes dw-link bikes pedal well tends to overdrive the fork, so the fact that the stock Fox fork works well with the Mach 5.7 could be science or serendipity. That’s what mountain bike geometry should look like, even for XC race bikes.

Works perfect and great support

Atrokz, what I meant is that Pivot didn’t pay Pinkbike directly to write the review. There are lots of ads on PB that aren’t solely bike companies. For instance, I’ve seen ads for FitnessSingles.com on here. OK thats the marketing hype and the verbage from the patent.

I think that 15mm axles are here just to separate the XC and trail forks from the bigger ones. Wouldn’t be comparing the SX Trail to this pivot, compare the SX Trail to the Pivot Firebird. This is squarely aimed at the stumpjumper FSR evo.

Not much for diversity of rider sizes. You need to get a larger person and a petite person in your test riders. At 6′ lbs I fit the bill for one of the spots. Feel free to PM me and we can discuss my salary. In all seriousness – it would help your field test and reviews if you had more variety of rider sizes. Yup, I feel like all of these bikes need to be compared to the Epic EVO, Spur and the Top Fuel.

They couldn’t compare one as there isn’t a comparison. The Session is excellent for big park days, but some folks act like there’s absolutely no compromise, and that’s not true for me. Climbing with a dad bod really is more fun on a XC bike. The silence on PBs part has been deafening and is starting to look bad. Do the right thing PB, make a short post and share the go fund me link.

Lather it in kashima, carbon and XTR, it’s hard to not score. I’ve always liked PB, Ty and Mike have even answered specific questions of mine personally but adding someone like RC who knows the MTB industry from infancy….priceless. Nah, we’ve all been riding long enough and have ridden more than enough bikes to know and, even more importantly, communicate how the bikes are different and what these price tags actually mean on the trail. Personally, I love having outliers like the RSD in group tests because it makes it much more interesting.
